Two episodes into the new anime and I think it’s safe to say that to this day NO ONE knows what Black Rock Shooter is supposed to be. The OVA showed this with its overall blandness and had everyone second guessing what the hell they are fans of exactly. I mean, this is what happens when you try to make a whole world out of a single character design. Wires cross and no one understands what the heart of it all is. We basically went from Hatsune Miku palette swap to poorly written melodrama (with color symbolism! How thought-provoking.) alongside confusing CG fight scenes. Oh, and some mediocre PSP game. Is this what huke really wanted for BRS?
People will still buy the merchandise, watch the show, and proliferate the fandom in some form or another. I guess, in the end, the future refused to change.
